EXHIBITION & COLlECTION

'Rock, Salt, Sea' - Rottnest Island, a view from above.

Rottnest holds a special place in the hearts of many Western Australians. These images are a selection from the greater collection titled Rock, Salt, Sea which is an ongoing project of Christian's and has been created during many flights over Rottnest from early 2015 until the current time.

Like many West Australia’s, Christian experienced a childhood of annual family holiday pilgrimages to Rottnest and from an early age the island had cemented a special place in his heart. Attending school on the island through periods of  his primary education and experiencing hundreds of hours exploring, snorkeling, fishing, beachcombing and swimming in the turquoise waters surrounding the island with family and loved ones holds so many important memories.

"When I’m above Rottnest I am particularly fascinated by the natural rock shapes and forms. When seen from the air, those jagged irregular shapes on land continue into the sea in the reefs, rocks and smaller islands. They all hold their own identity and importance as pieces of the puzzle that make up our special Rottnest island. I’m especially drawn to the shades of turquoise, blue and green in the Sea that are so quintessentially  Rottnest’s own

identifying colour pallet."

All images forming this collection have been captured from fixed wing Cesna aircraft.
